Obituary for Ronald Brei

Ronald A. Brei, 87, of Davenport, formerly of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Kahl Nursing Home in Davenport.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery. Following the committal there will be a time of food and fellowship at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room. Ron’s preference for cremation was facilitated by the FCS Life Transition and Cremation Center of Muscatine Memorial Park. A memorial has been established at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Ron’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Ronald Allie Brei was born on March 28, 1925 in Muscatine, the son of Allie A. and Theresa L. (Vance) Brei. In December 1942 he joined the US Navy and served aboard ship in the South Pacific, attaining the rank of Signalman 2nd Class and was honorably discharged in December 1945.

On September 8, 1946 Ron was united in marriage to Kathryn Neoma Phillips at Grace Lutheran Church in Muscatine. He was the owner/operator of the Brei Standard Oil Station at 6th and Mulberry in Muscatine for 16 years. The company slogan was, “Don’t cry, call Brei”. After that he and his wife purchased a farm and farmed for 14 years. They next enjoyed their motor home and traveled the United States, Canada and Mexico. He enjoyed antiquing, golfing, cross-stitching and gardening. Ron was also a fifty year plus member of the Elks 304 and Elk of the Year in 1994-1995.

Ron will be deeply missed by his daughter, Pauline D. Janney of Bettendorf; 3 grandchildren, Rhonda Bowling and her husband, Steve of Bettendorf, Laura Williams and her husband Kurt of Davenport and Steven Janney and his wife, Lisa of Davenport; 8 great grandchildren, Tom, Jennifer, Stephanie, Jeremy, Randy, Jason, Josh and Brandon; 18 great great grandchildren; 1 great great great granddaughter; three brothers, Richard Brei and wife Karen, Henry Brei and wife Mary and Kenneth Brei and wife Dorothy; several nieces and nephews; godchild, Katy Brei; and brother-in-law, Myron Rittenhouse.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathryn; son-in-law, Richard Janney; and sisters, Anna Marie, Gladys and Marilyn.
